HOARDING VS COLLECTING - We can Help!

Are you or someone you know  afraid of throwing things away? Are your storage areas overflowing and messy? For most people, the difference between hoarding and collecting is blurry, but there is a big difference.  The definition of hoarding is to amass (money or valued objects) and hide or store away. Hoarding is often more about the fear of throwing away than about the joy of collecting or preserving.

According to the International OCD Foundation, compulsive hoarding affects at least 1 in 50 people, but they may be present in as many as 1 in 20.

To hoarders, even the idea of throwing things away can bring on some serious anxiety so instead of writing a blog telling you to change who you are, we want to help you with your problem.

Please remember that a portable storage unit from EZBOX Tidewater can help you to get organized. Our boxes are affordable, convenient and effective. Here are some helpful ideas to declutter without losing your precious belongings:

MAKE IT PRACTICAL!
We understand there are some things you just can’t get rid of, but can you make it more practical? Find a use for it around the house or put it in reach to be used.

KEEP ONE & PUT THE REST AWAY.
Eliminating clutter is extremely hard for hoarders because it is so hard to organize all of their possessions.

Here are some helpful questions to ask yourself:

Why am I keeping this?

Does seeing this thing bring me joy?

If you answer ‘no’ or ‘I don’t know’ then, the correct course of action is to get rid of it! Use EZBox Tidewater’s advice, only hold on to things that bring you joy.
